Please join us for our yoga karma class and help us end gender based violence.
Half of all Canadian women have experienced physical or sexual violence.
92% of teens who experience dating violence are girls.
Every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.
WHAT IS A KARMA CLASS?
Karma classes are a great way to practice yoga while financially supporting a good cause and connecting with others on a deeper level of awareness. Rather than charge an entry fee, studios collect donations for a charity. On December 6, look for the Strong With Her logo. Participating locations will ensure your Karma Class donation supports the work of YWCA Halifax.
WHAT IS DECEMBER 6?
December 6th marks Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women and commemorates the anniversary of the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal, during which an armed male student deliberately targeted and murdered fourteen women and injured ten more in the name of “fighting feminism.”
Yoga instructors across HRM are joining YWCA Halifax by hosting a Karma class to recognize those lost in Montreal, provide a healing space for self-care on December 6, and raise funds to help in our work of ending gender based violence and providing support to those affected.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Visit strongwithher.ca for a list of participating locations and times. Ask your yoga instructor to consider hosting a Karma class in support of YWCA Halifax on December 6.
