Leadership, Equity, Activity & Diversity (LEAD)
Funded by the Province of Nova Scotia, Communities, Culture, Tourism, Heritage Dept. LEAD (Leadership, Equity, Activity, Diversity) was developed as a strategy after much consultation which originated from WANSA (Women Active-NS).
The primary goal of LEAD is to improve access, experience and participation in sport and recreation opportunities for women and girls, non-binary and gender diverse individuals through inclusive, safe spaces and supports.
1 in 4 girls aged 6-18 are currently not returning to sport, post COVID-19 Pandemic and this statistic is alarming (Canadian Women and Sport, 2022). Besides the various mental and physical health benefits that can be derived from sport and recreation, these experiences and opportunities develop important life and leadership skills as well as hone confidence and self-awareness. To address this generational crisis, together with many provincial and federal initiatives, YWCA LEAD continues to play an important role in levelling the playing field for all women and girls to participate in sport and being active.
