Help for Youth Survivors of Sex Trafficking and Exploitation
The rate of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Halifax is the highest out of all metropolitan cities in Canada, and young girls and youth are made vulnerable every day.
The Nova Scotia Transition & Advocacy for Youth program (NSTAY) offers a range of supports for youth ages 13 to 24 who are, or have been, exploited or trafficked to support them in exiting unsafe situations, healing from trauma, and planning for the future.
NSTAY is non-judgmental and was built in collaboration with people who have experience of exploitation in the sex trade.
Supports We Offer Youth:
- One-on-one peer support
- Housing support
- Employment and education counselling
- Material assistance
- Systems navigation
- Accompaniment to appointments
- Court support
- Safety planning
Eligibility Requirements
- Youth ages 13 to 24
- In a sexually exploitative situation or potentially being groomed for the sex trade
- All genders (girls, boys, Two Spirit, transgender, and non-binary) can access supports
- Living anywhere in Nova Scotia
How to Get Support

Any service provider, teacher, social worker or law enforcement agent may make a referral to the NSTAY program.
*If the client or student being trafficked, exploited, or groomed is under the age of 16 it is required that you report to the Department of Community Services and/or that the referral be made through them.
