What is NSTAY?
NSTAY is a program which provides exploited/trafficked youth with wraparound support and connects them with the services they need. NSTAY has been developed with a trauma-informed lens and takes a harm-reduction approach. It is a non-judgemental program and incorporates promising practices from across Canada and is informed by those with experience of exploitation within the sex trade.
Who is eligible?
The program will provide support to youth between the ages of 16-24 who have disclosed that they are involved in a sexually exploitative situation or who are suspected of being groomed for involvement in the sex trade, regardless of gender identification, or location in the province.
What does NSTAY offer?
The wraparound model of care is a comprehensive, holistic approach to services that puts the youth at the centre of programming and empowers them to take the lead in goal setting and defining their own success. We offer youth:
- One-on-one peer support
- Case management
- Housing support
- Systems navigation
- Material assistance
- Accompaniment to appointments
- Court support
- Safety planning
- Employment and education counselling
How do I access NSTAY?
Currently NSTAY is does accept self-referrals. However any service provider, teacher, social worker or law enforcement agent may make a referral to the NSTAY program. Please download the PDF below and email it to: NSTAY@ywcahalifax.com
If the client is under the age of 16 it is required that you report to the Department of Community Services and/or that the referral be made through them.
